Do, or do not.

Text swiped from [livejournal.com profile] nephthys510: The Johari Window was invented by Joseph Luft and Harrington Ingram in the 1950s as a model for mapping personality awareness. By describing yourself from a fixed list of adjectives, then asking your friends and colleagues to describe you from the same list, a grid of overlap and difference can be built up.

Oh, that is interesting. Thank you.

Apparently (thus far) I'm in denial about being able, complex, and loving.

And thus far, nobody seems to think I'm independent. But that's okay - I don't need them to agree with me anyway!

You are... definitely.

*laughs*

Well, what I find most interesting is seeing what people consider my primary characteristics... because I certainly do consider you independent, but I thought the six I chose were most descriptive of who you are, any my experience of you has mostly been centered on your kindness, insight, caring, and such.

I found it somewhat amusing that you chose 'dependable' for me. ;-)

Well, you ARE dependable! I can always count on you to listen to me, or to tell me that you will listen to me after you've had sleep, or etc. You're consistent with yourself, and that's a special thing.

*smile*

Most people's concept of dependability isn't especially compatible with little things like depression, anxiety, agoraphobia, social anxiety... I don't consider myself irresponsible or thoughtless, but I also wouldn't say that things like "showing up for the school play" are among my strong points. :-\

Well, you have never, ever shown up for one of my school plays, so I can totally depend on you to continue to not do so.

I feel that I can depend on you to make a wise decision according to what you need at the moment. Sometimes what you decide at that moment is different than what you had decided previously (such as, I suppose, not going to a school play when you said you would), but I don't think that negates your dependability - it just means that you made a new decision. You have the right to change your mind about things based on new information, such as information regarding an oncoming panic attack. Perhaps other people's versions of dependable are different, but so far as I can see, you are good at communicating your needs and decisions, even if they change, which means that I feel I can depend on you.

The same goes for you, you know. (You know, right?)

If you say so, I guess I know now.

Sorry to bit in, but I totally read that "angoraphobia", and I was briefly wondering why a fear of animal fibers makes you undependable?

From: [identity profile] kyra-ojosverdes.livejournal.com
Well, I do have an aversion to animal fibers... how that makes me undependable would require some thought.

I think the results are somewhat skewed to adjectives that fall at the beginning of the alphabet, because by the time you get to the "R"s, you can't choose any more.

Of course, it might just be my laziness at work.

Or your insistence on starting at the beginning of the alphabet? *grin*

It took me a while to even realize that they were alphabetized in the first place. I started in the middle and read words at random.

I did the same thing.

I want do re-do this project in a much geekier, quantifying way. With different words, and a ranking system, rather than just picking a maximum of six. I'd also eliminate synonyms like "caring" and "loving" and "intelligent" and "clever."

*nods vigorously enough to risk injury*

I think there are differences in meaning there, but they're close enough that one or the other could be sacrificed in favor of some actually negative words.

Say... vindictive, selfish, lazy, dishonest, neurotic. I'd have chosen insecure and procrastinator if they'd been available.
