Michelle,

I can't seem to find your mom's e-mail address, so would you mind forwarding this note? Thanks!!

Much love,
Katrina

Long time no write! Sorry about that... I just got absorbed in the "everything else" between cancer treatments.

I took the radioactive iodine yesterday. During the night, the glands just below my ears swelled up in a BIG way. I look like I've got the mumps. I'm just wondering, did that happen to you?

(Other than that, I feel fine!)

How are things going for you?

Take care!
Katrina

Hi!
I talked to mom--she said she swelled from her ears to her shoulders almost -- exactly like when she had the mumps as a child. She also said the docs neglected to tell her about it beforehand, so she is thinking it is a less common side effect (maybe), but she definitely knew exactly what you were talking about. It didn't take long to subside, and she seemed to relate it somehow to the treatment really being effective (I didn't probe--she just said, for some reason, that it seemed a good sign...)

Take care, dear, and keep me posted--we are all thinking of you and sending positive energies your way.
xoxx,
Michelle

Michelle,

thanks so much!! Yes, that's exactly what I've got going now... my entire neck is swollen. Ugh. I called the endocrinologist and got the standard "Oh it'll be fine, just drink lots of water and don't worry about it" answer. Well, I'm far too mellow (hypothyroid) to actually *worry* about anything, but I am terribly curious about it! :-)

My regular doctor would have explained it to me. Yet another reason I worship her, and wish my endocrinologist were more like her!

I'm feeling pretty good, considering. I have episodes of nausea, but nothing I can't manage with ginger ale and bland foods. I'm sleeping a LOT. I'm also reading a lot. All in all, I'll probably look back on this time as a blessed reprieve in the marathon that's been my life for the last who-knows-how-long. I suppose in that sense, the cancer was a gift of sorts. It gave me Official Permission to cut myself some slack and take a month off from Life. There are worse things to have come your way! ;-)

Much love,
Katrina
