Tonight, I taught James how to use a cloth to polish smudges and smears off glassware, so that glassware is shiny and clear, As God Intended.

Therefore, my wineglass is all sparkly and shiny and free of smears tonight.

I thought you'd all want to know.

today, Storm volunteered to mop the store. as an added bonus, she slopped dirty water onto the new paint about halfway up the walls.

yeah, but not totally rock-solid dry yet, maybe. not sure. it seemed to wipe off well, but the wall kind of discolored and looked wet for a while. hopefully once it dries that will go away.

i do. crossing fingers that it was tougher than it looked. i mean, it had had four days to dry. surely that's enough, even though it still felt a little tacky to the touch. i had to use four coats. but still....four days.

Speaking of how wonderful it is when the children help, have I ever told you about the beautiful set of china I was given when I helped a woman from my church move? (I turned down a delicious set of glassware because there was just so much of it and I had anowhere to store it, nor a lifestyle in which I'd make use of it.)

Well, the china. Service for eight. There was, anyway. Yes, wonderful thing, having the boys wash the dishes. Builds character. Promotes antimaterialism.

This is why I go to the Thrift store and buy up cheapity cheap cheap but lovely vintage glasses. They may have been someone else's heirloom, but when the boys break one, they are the glasses for which I paid 50 cents apiece.

Every time they break a plate or bowl, I remind myself that the dishes were free and that one should use one's nice things, not keep them in a box somewhere...

I like your idea. I should do that for my glassware. The supply of which is constantly decreasing. I have concluded that this is why people receive tons of drinking glasses as wedding gifts: so the eventual kids can break them.

I have to say that I have a set of dishes that I cannot use. I don't think it's fair to inflict the level of anxiety I have when they are used on anyone. They've been in the family almost a hundred years and just have far too much meaning to me.
