As I'm sure you folks have figured out, I'm opposed to the war in Iraq. (This does not mean I don't support our troops. Of course I support our troops. I oppose the orders they are being given, not the people who have no choice but to carry those orders out.)
Anyhow, due to circumstances of laundry, today I happen to be wearing:
- blue jeans, because they're all that's clean and I like them
- red tank-top, because it's long enough to cover the gap left by the low-rise jeans and I don't like showing off my tummy
- cream sweater, because it's not yet tank-top weather and all my other sweaters or button-down shirts are in the laundry
Hissing. Because I am wearing red, white, and blue. (Yes, I do feel a little uncomfortable in this clothing combination, because currently, these colors mean "I am in support of the war.") One of the tenets of liberalism is that everyone should all have room to hold their own views and opinions, right? And express them, right? Even if we don't agree with those views/opinions, right? So what the hell?
I feel pretty strongly about current world events, and I am committed to my views. That does not mean that I'm "right" or that those who disagree are "wrong." It simply means that we disagree. Okay. Fine. I will keep listening and seeking to understand why they feel and think the way they do, and I will hope that I will be afforded the same courtesy.
Hissing. Because of clothing. Good Lord.

Sorry... I don't have much patience for people who say they want everyone to be able to have and freely express their own opinions and then boo down or hiss out or worst of all physically pummel those who dare to hold disagreeing viewpoints.

That's just ANOTHER way of saying "you're entitled to have ANY opinion you want, as long as it's exactly like MINE (Ya' hear me!!?)", but as approached from the other end of the political spectrum :-) You just can't win when it comes to politics [and family]. The Human "animal" is BY NATURE narrow minded. It takes a lot of constant work to overcome this trait. Recall the conversation we had on how "Politically Correct" speak is just a gold-paint coating to gloss over this still present animosity, and "make things nice".
When I was in high-school (circa ~'87), there was a whole mini-culture war here in Israel. A number of leading Fashion-Designers went into Designer Bathing-Suits, of varying minimal amounts of cloth actually used, and in a pretty novel move (for then) displayed their "wares/weares" on Bus-Stop Posters of scantly clad models, in various provocative positions. Believe me, it was impossible to walk down a main street and not see these Bare Naked Ladies. What ensued was a summer of Bus-Station Burning, being conducted by the two opposite poles of the Spectrum: Both the Ultra-Orthodox, who objected for reasons of modesty, AND the Feminists who protested the degradation and "objectisation" of Women. Sometimes doing the same bus-stops together.
It was very funny to watch, especially as I agreed with BOTH parties on this issue. :-)
