elusivegorgon: so EVERY GODDAMN TIME I COOK the fucking thing is shrieking

elusivegorgon: and all the kitchen windows must be open
elusivegorgon: and I'm waving a dishtowel under the detector to shut it the fuck up
elusivegorgon: it's specially wired so you can't just disconnect it

elusivegorgon: I'm calling the property management place tomorrow to get the fan fixed

elusivegorgon: still coming down from the 30-minute alarm ordeal

elusivegorgon: wave the towel, the alarm goes off, work a bit on the laundry or dishes or cooking until the alarm screams more, drop what I'm doing and wave the towel some more
elusivegorgon: meanwhile kids are under my feet and asking stupid questions like "that's really annoying isn't it" and "when will dinner be done" and 'why does it make that noise?"
elusivegorgon: YES! FUCK! NO! WHAT! SHUT UP! NO!
elusivegorgon: as previously stated, I do NOT react well to loud noises.

I'm the same way; very sensitive to noise. I have to sleep with a fan on, because the little creaking noises in the house (as well as the sound of Debbie breathing) will keep me awake all night.

If an alarm goes off near me, my heart goes into overdrive and it takes me forever to calm back down again.
