Mouse Woes
Nov. 22nd, 2003 08:01 pmMy computer is doing frustrating things. These frustrating things are getting progressively worse. At one point, the mouse would just sort of take a break, you know, go outside and have a smoke or something, before coming back to work. That was annoying but tolerable. Then it started taking lunches. That was frustrating but a good sign that it was time to heft my ass out of the computer chair. Now it takes long lunches and comes back high on crystal meth. What's worse than a mouse that doesn't respond? A mouse that moves and clicks wherever and whatever the hell it likes, generally having absolutely nothing to do with what you want it to do.
Ideas? It's a Microsoft optical mouse, so it's definitely not a sticky mouse ball or something like that. I *think* the "smoke break" problems started with our old mouse, so it's likely not the mouse at all but the computer setting the mouse up for a fall. Maybe the computer is dealing crystal meth to the mouse. I don't know.
But goddammit, I CAN'T PLAY UO, and it's gotten bad enough that I can't even play Age of Empires anymore!! This cannot be, folkses.

I'm sure you probably knew that already, but it was the only thing I could think of, other than a mouse dysfunction. Does a regular cable mouse work properly, or have you tried one?

Date: 2003-11-28 11:59 pm (UTC)I'm sure you have plenty of techie people running around. But I'm always up for looking at other peoples computers if you'd like help, you just have to say the word.
On another note, you didn't happen to get one of the actual good computer deals from best buy yesterday. If your looking for a computer I always suggest piece by piece bought and built systems. The only downside is normally there is no tech support that way. But then again how good is most computer tech support anyway. (There is always computer junkies around willing to give opinions take me for example.)

Date: 2003-11-23 06:04 am (UTC)If that doesn't work, it might just be, sadly, time to uninstall and reinstall Windows. I do this so often I have a partition just for the OS and another one for everything else.
It's most likely not the mouse itself being a pain--they usually either work or don't, no between-states. You could try plugging in an old one and seeing if the same thing happens, though.
And I love your sense of humor. :)
