Hum de Dum... KA-POW!!!!
Oct. 6th, 2003 06:11 pmThat was my morning. Make sure boys are ready for school, leave them parked in front of a National Geographic video. (These kids are so damn easy to educate. Say "educational" and they practically drool. And no, it's not the "naked natives" National Geographic, either.) Drop Eliza off at creepass's place. Feel hungry. Go to IGA to see if I can find anything edible. Find a couple small things, really not worth the trip, decide that said IGA isn't worth a return. Drive toward worksite.
WHAM!!!
Gasp. Say "Jesus!" Glimpse a tawny blur in the driver's side mirror. Realize that the entire inside of the minivan has just been sprayed with the itty-bitty pieces of what, just seconds ago, was a window. Blink a few times and keep driving to work. (For those who don't share their habitat with abundant wildlife, it was a deer.)
So. I'm in the market for a new window... '93 Plymouth Voyager, driver's side "middle" window. I need to replace it soon. Winter cometh, its sharp teeth and evil claws hungry for my skin and that of my mini-people. I'm not sure whether it's worth submitting an insurance claim... need to check my deductible and figure out what it will cost to get it fixed myself. As it is, my insurance is over $1000 per year.
Work was cool today. Guys were nice. Now, of course, I wonder "Are they being nice because they think I'm cool, or because a boss-like person nudged them to be nice to me, or because I'm the one who keeps the water jugs filled with cold fresh H2O?" Probably the latter. The guys on the framing crew, who are currently putting trusses in place and then putting sheeting on the trusses, have been talking real sweet-like when they ask me to please oh please make a water run. They say thank you with feeling, too!
In other work-related news, the challah was a huge success. Sweet Jack-Mormon guy continues to be sweet, though I think he's a little concerned that I may be getting sweet on him. Poor dear. One of the younger guys (23)... I'll call him College Boy, has been really friendly the last few days. (I'd kind of steered clear of him at first, because, well, he's the sort of good-looking, well-spoken, confident guy that takes me right back to high school. High school was hell. 'Nuff said.) We worked together for a while today. At one point I was working with him and Sweet Jack-Mormon Guy. College Boy suddenly started singing "The Sun" by They Might Be Giants. I joined in. We were both delighted that the other loves TMBG. Sweet Jack-Mormon guy was kind of puzzled, but rolled with it. College Boy wants me to bake him some challah, so he can taste the wonder that is. (Sweet Jack-Mormon Guy suggested it, College Boy agreed it was a GREAT idea.)
