Two good things happened right before I left for the neck-snippage yesterday. I was offered an apartment in the YWCA's Transitional Housing Program, and the Student Assault Resource Center (name change, it got a bit awkward being known as SARS) called to see if I'd like to be an advocate again this year. I'm doing a weekend page shift on Saturday. I'm pretty excited to get back into that. Believe it or not, I've missed the nights of fitful sleep, waiting for the pager to go off so I can help talk a frightened woman through her experience of being sexually assaulted or living with relationship violence.

I'll be doing a walk-through of the new apartment this afternoon, and can sign a lease next week. Now the packing begins in earnest. Missoula people, are you still willing to help me move? :-)

Ugh... the Lortab made me sick. Just threw up. Hell. I need to play "race the check to the bank" this morning as soon as the kids go to school.

Hmm, should probably tell you about the "fun" I had living in a YWCA (yes I do mean YWCA not YMCA) once.

Happened quite a few years ago now (1996?). I had got a summer job in York after finishing my degree and before starting the next one. The trouble was finding somewhere to live for a few months. I can't remember how but someone mentioned there was a YWCA. Turns out there is only a YWCA no YMCA so they let men stay. It was cheap so I took it. The only problem were the other residents and the scary drama that went on between them. Strange people, not all bad. The Irish navvie laying cable TV, the out of work artist, the kid thrown out of his home, the guy who had worked 20 years on the line at the sweet factory. Then there were the drug addicts, prostitutes, axe murderers, and generally strange scary people. I pretty much spent every night locked in my room with a chair under the handle. It didn't take long for me to decide to take the train home to Manchester every weekend.

It occurs to me that the "don't lift anything over 20 lbs for the next week" may become something of an issue here. :-\

Woo hoo!
