Employment, Day Three
Aug. 13th, 2003 09:18 pmNobody offered to lift anything for me. Nobody asked "Are you sure you handle that?" I was asked to lend a hand several times. HOOYAH! I told Neighbor-Dan, when we were talking about me starting on the crew, that I'd prefer my gender not even be noticed. I want to be part of the crew, not "the woman/girl on the crew." I don't want special treatment, and the fact that I'm not being offered any favors means that either they can't stand me or that they know I can do the work. They're all friendly though, so I think they like me just fine. ;-)
I wasn't as sore this morning as I was yesterday morning, despite the fact that I busted my ass yesterday. Today wasn't as physically difficult. I "broomed concrete" some more, but also did a lot of driving around to fetch parts and tools.
Note to Missoulians: Bodell Construction is "good people." They treat their employees with respect. I have to admit, I do enjoy the admiring looks I get from the three women working in the main office (desk jobs) when I walk in, all sweaty and dirt-covered, to get tools from the shop.
I'm getting a nasty-bad cold. I'm only working a part-day tomorrow though, then taking off the rest of the day and Fridy, for my scar touch-up surgery.

Date: 2003-08-14 05:22 am (UTC)Having said that, this morning I feel like the underside of someone's shoe. Fucking cold. Thank God I'm only working 4 hours, in the cool of the morning.
