Lavender Revolution: Plant essences linked to enlarged breasts in boys as posted by [livejournal.com profile] vocalista001

"Two ingredients common in many hair- and skin-care products have been linked to abnormal development of breasts in boys. Lavender oil and tea tree oil contain compounds that act like female sex hormones and interfere with male hormones, researchers have determined."

...

"The plant essences presumably have similar potential effects in young girls, Reiter says. Studies show a recent rise of early breast development in girls (SN: 9/9/00, p. 165: http://www.sciencenews.org/articles/20000909/fob3.asp). Prepubertal children have low sex hormone concentrations, so relatively small amounts of hormone-mimicking compounds might upset their physiologic balance at that age, says Reiter."

Now there's an idea... lavender/teatree scented spray-on Gay to be used on rabid homophobes. [yes I know it wouldn't really work, but we don't have to tell them that.]

I like the way you think. ;)

I try to use my Genius for good... But Evil is just so much more fun!!

So wait... anti-androgen? S'pose these compounds might help out a certain person (ME) who has some androgen issues? *stocks up on lavendar soap*

[identity profile] saradaneko.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 04:11 pm (UTC)(link)
have you tried finasteride or spironolactone? they worked like a charm on me. i really doubt the potency is there for an adult in those oils.

[identity profile] gryphonwing.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not but those sound very official and like the sort of thing a doctor is supposed to be involved with... and I lack insurance currently. Plus I'd have to see an endocrinologist and jump through a lot of hoops and stuff. *sigh*

[identity profile] redrita.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 03:58 am (UTC)(link)
Wouldn't it be wonderful if those incredibly official sounding terms translated into "chamomile" and "broccoli florets"? Unfortunately, it almost never works that way. :(

[identity profile] saradaneko.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 04:15 pm (UTC)(link)
ah wonderful. more stuff to screw with hormones.

[identity profile] sweet-byrd.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if that is why lavendar oil is suggested for hormonally-influenced migraines.

[identity profile] americanvalkrie.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, am I that superficial? Everyone else is talking about androgens and hormones and homophobia, and I'm thinking...

"Wow, think it'll make my boobs bigger?"

[identity profile] dianyla.livejournal.com 2006-07-14 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Lavender + tea-tree oil diluted applied to my face has done wonders for my facial acne (which I believe has always been angry-hormone related).

I think I'll keep it away from the boobne for now, though. :)

I dunno. I still think you're taking a risk by washing with it. Reference this sentence here:

...have been linked to abnormal development of breasts in boys.

You're just asking for boobs on your face, you know.

It's the only way I can get men to look me in the eye!

[identity profile] canyonwren.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
So, that's why a certain young man calls you "round eyes"!

[identity profile] canyonwren.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
I can just see it now...

Person 1: So, why do you have tits on your face?

Person 2: Those aren't tits! Those are umm... chipmunk cheeks!

Person 1: Wow! I gotta find me a chipmunk.

/pervy

[identity profile] kyra-ojosverdes.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 05:43 am (UTC)(link)
*has been described as having chipmunk cheeks a time or fifty*

[identity profile] canyonwren.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
And you use lavendar soap, doncha? All becomes clear!

[identity profile] kyra-ojosverdes.livejournal.com 2006-07-15 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Well thank goodness my cheeks aren't so sensitive... [public post]

Mmf mmmf mmffff mmfff!
