What I Want

You know those little drive-up coffee places that have sprung up everywhere over the last ten years? I want something like that but with food. Food which is as cheap, quickly prepared, and appetizing as the coffee and coffee drinks those drive-up places sell. Because my stomach is still recovering and won't allow me to substitute coffee drinks for food nibbling at something while sitting at my desk is so not an option at the new job.

(Yes, a really bright person could probably figure out some way to ingest food before leaving the house. I think I need some intensive one-on-one tutoring there.)

ETA: I'm aware that drive-through fast food places have existed for some time. We don't have any locally which don't serve fairly nasty food in the morning. Hardee's had some decent stuff... they closed down here. Also, I want my food to be as portable and neatly consumed as a coffee drink. Yes, I am just randomly bitching on a Monday morning.

I wish I could provide tutelage in getting food into one's system before leaving the house, but I'm notoriously bad at it. The best I've been able to manage is (a) put bread in toaster, (b) toast, (c) spread it with something protein-ish (peanut butter, almond butter, sometimes tahini) and (c) choke it down, grumbling all the while.

Even so, it helps.

I want the equivalent of an Ensure drink... only warm, appetizing, affordable, convenient, and filling.

Or the food pills They've been promising for decades now.

Hm. Have you ever tried Carnation Instant Breakfast? You just add it to milk, and it can be nuked for a warm drink. And other than the strawberry, which tastes appallingly artificial, the flavors are pretty decent. Fairly cheap, too.

I can't have it 'cause I'm lactose intolerant and loathe soy milk, but back when I could still drink milk, it was the least obnoxious morning food alternative I found.

It's got enough sugar to throw my blood glucose off for the rest of the day. :-\

I've used it as a "trick my body into ingesting calories" thing before (stress makes it hard for me to eat, I lose weight when going through a difficult time).

(Yes, I tend to be an "eat to live" person, with occasional guided forays into "omg food is GOOD!")
