SPAM: The Final Frontier

I just received SPAM from Chuck Morse, who is running against Barney Frank.

Bizarre.

I wonder if they've considered that SPAM tends to piss people off... well, people who know what SPAM is anyway and won't be all flattered that Chuck Morse personally sent an e-mail just to them (and then confused about why they can't vote for him given they live in Montana and he's running in Massachusetts).

In our last local election, I had the same thing happen. The person running for city/parish president emailed me asking me to vote for him. Yeah, like I didn't comprehend the whole spam thing (and yes, it does piss me off... and how the hell did they get my email address to begin with?). On top of that, I got recorded messages from various other people campaigning, including people running for governor, various council positions, etc. I really hate recorded messages like that. Now the local school board is doing the same damned thing. And people wonder why my phone is always off and I check the caller ID to screen calls when I see the red light that indicates my phone is ringing.

Scary.

And he looks like Jason Alexander in Seinfeld.

I live in Massachusetts, am reasonably politically savvy, and I've never heard of this guy.

It's funny: he's attacking Frank on positions that are popular. One of his talking points is that Frank voted against the war in Iraq. The Iraq war was NEVER popular in the 4th district, and most people support Frank for taking a stand against it, and have since the vote. Now, of course, the rest of the country is starting to come round to the point of view that Frank's constituents already held.

Last time Morse ran against Frank, Frank won with 78% of the vote.

I hope lots of people donate to Morse. It'd suck money away from candidates that might have a chance to win, and, for that matter, put money into our local economy.

In Israel there has been at least one case, where it was shown that a "vote for me" Spam, was actually sent by the supporters of the rival of the person the spam named. they knowingly hoped for the backlash effect, but failed to cover their tracks very well.
