I see it as a contimuum rather than a binary yes-or-no thing.

J = my 11 year old son
Me = um, me.
Ma = my 9 year old son Mark
E = my 6 year old daughter

Totally Linear -----------------------------------------E----------------Me--J------Ma--- Totally Nonlinear

A person falling near either end of the spectrum will have serious problems functioning in a society made up of "not at either end of the spectrum" people, but our current western industrialized society definitely favors the linear style of brain function, to the point that the nonlinear style is defined as a disorder.
